Thank You Board of Directors and Board Members for leading us into the 2010 Running Year!
2009 Recognition:
Joe Pellegrino for managing the club’s clothing and being the point of contact for
the Boston Marathon numbers.
Don Davis for doing such a wonderful job at maintaining our club website and keeping
us all informed. This is Don’s last year for doing the website. If anyone is
interested in taking this position over please let any member of the board know.
Alan, on behalf of everyone in this club I would like to extent our sincere gratitude
for all the effort and time that is so evidently spent on preparing the quality product
that we all eagerly wait to read each week. The Newsprint is a cornerstone of our
club due to your hard work and commitment.
One of our greatest sources of revenue is derived from the Wednesday Night Fun Run.
Many of our members help out however there are a few that go above and beyond and
are there constantly. They are: Meg Michaels, Pat Ryan, Diane Dexter, Rick Collette,
Naomi Laing, Alan Foulds, Anna Foulds, Ted Dooling, John Mulroy, Marge Heck, John Kelly, Ken Skier, Steve Viegas, Bob Whitmore and our non-member volunteer Jane Ryder.
The following members provide us with pictures of the many races that our members
participate in. I know I always look forward to getting an email from Ken Skier.
He has individually cropped over 4,500 pictures and created over 70 photo albums
relating to Mystics. He takes a great deal of his personal time to attend the races
and to put together fantastic photo shows that he shares with our entire club. Thank you Ken!
Also, our club President Kevin Eaton and member John Mulroy who do an outstanding
job and we thank you for sharing your photographs with us as well.
Each year we eagerly anticipate the film show. This could not be done without Jen Dodge. Assisting her this year is Alan and Anna Foulds and Don Davis.
The 2009 Annual Swimsuit Classic grew from 96 runners in 2008 to 107 in 2009. This was in large part due to the efforts of Club Vice President and Race Director Dave Corbett. Naomi Laing and Dave Rand assisted with all the work that this type of an event requires. We had 18 members run the race and 22 members served as volunteers. Thank you to Bob Lane for being one of the main donors and helping make this race such a great success. As a result of all of this hard work and generosity, the Mystics donated $2,000 to the Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry. The following members volunteered at the Swimsuit Classic; John Kelly, Steve Viegas, Krissy Nowell, Kevin Claire, Janie Ryder, Ken Skier, Linda Quimby, Barry Brodette, Don Perkins,Christine Skinner, Tracy Deats, Meg Michaels, Rick Collette, Bob Whittmore, Kevin Eaton, Ann Nelson, Donna Plachowicz, Joe Pelligrino, Naomi Laing and Dave Rand.
Thank you to family members that also volunteered; Cynthia Skier and Celeste Corbett.
The Mystic Runners volunteered at the 2009 Boston Run to Remember. There were 12 of us that manned two water stops and two members volunteered at the Expo. Volunteering at this event also provided revenue to our club. The following members volunteered at the water stop; David Rand, Mary Rand, Emma Rand, Naomi Laing, Bob Whitmore, Joe Pellegrino, Rick Collette, Kevin Eaton, Nakano Takayuki, Don Davis & Christine Skinner. Steve Viegas and Wayne Dwyer volunteered at the expo.
Each year many Mystics volunteer for the Boston Athletic Association. This year was no different. We had 17 people represent the Mystics at the packet stuffing located in Wilmington.
We had many others that volunteered at the Expo and on the day of the marathon. This earned us special recognition on the BAA website.
We would like to acknowledge Steve Viegas for providing his coaching services to the Mystics.Steve coaches both the indoor and outdoor track programs which are virtually year round programs. It is because of Steve that we are able to train at Tufts University. Thank you Steve.
One of the benefits of being a Mystic is having access to a Hotel Room after running the Boston Marathon. This year we can thank Kevin Eaton and his wife Nancy, Alan and Anna Foulds. Dave Rand coordinated the bus that gets the Mystics to Hopkinton. This is a great comfort to those running the marathon.
Thank you Alan and Anna for hosting the Boston Marathon Party at the Hot Spot this year. Thank you Rick Collette for putting together a great photo display at this event that included photographs of all the Mystics that were running Boston.
In early November the board became aware that the registration for the 2010 Boston Marathon may be closing earlier than in previous years. That coupled with a banquet being held a little later we felt it was best to hold the drawing rather than wait for the banquet. The Boston Marathon Raffle was held on November 12 at the Lord Wakefield Hotel. Following are the winners of the raffle and we wish you all the best with your training and a beautiful run next April.
