Mystics run together. Every Wednesday we gather at the Lakeside Inn Parking Area and run a measured 5k around Lake Quannapowitt. Post race, we get gather at the Knights of Columbus just across North Ave.
We run together at our Grand Prix Series races each month, building camaraderie and friendly competition.
Our annual signature race, The Santa Dash Classic, brings us together through both running and volunteering.
We run and volunteer within the wider running community and give back to local charities. We field teams in both overall races and in relays. We send members to the Boston Marathon either by invitation or their own qualifying races and we are their biggest cheerleaders.
We've established a Scholarship committee and have awarded several thousand dollars to local athletes.
Mystics also socialize: We have an annual Yankee Swap during the holiday season, we've been known to play softball, participate in: curling, hiking, skiing, biking, and walking together.
We gather each winter for our annual awards recognition and year-in-review banquet.
"I don’t know if other cities have so many running clubs, but perhaps because of the Boston Marathon, the Boston area has something on the order of 30 or more clubs. I am a member of The Mystic Runners, a club based out of Wakefield. A few times a year there are great relay races where all the area clubs come together and “compete” in teams of 4-6 runners. Obviously some clubs are waaay faster than others. Ours is usually around the middle of the pack. But the team camaraderie is unbelievable. What a great group of people! The run is challenging, but it’s so much fun to compare results and talk about the past year and what kind of runs people have planned. The combination of working hard and celebrating for any reason no matter how the outcome is the reason to run."
Membership Renewal Time
It’s time to renew your membership as a Mystic. Once again the dues are $30 per person or $50 per household + $10 for each additional member beyond 2Hello Mystic Runners,
The BOD wanted to send a follow up regarding the increase to membership fees. We apologize for not including an explanation in the original email.
The club has kept the same membership fees for close to 20 years. The BOD voted to increase fees by $5 per person (for an individual membership and family of 2) due to increased operational costs of the club. Examples of these costs are food and paper products (used for our weekly 5K races), storage fees, P.O. Box, and applications like Google suites (used to track club information).
We also decided to implement a tiered membership fee for the family membership due to our insurance that is required to be part of the RRCA (Road Runners Club of America). Although we accept family memberships, we will pay a per-person fee for our insurance. Therefore, to cover a family of 5 people costs more than covering a family of 3 people, insurance wise.
We want you to know that this is a decision we did not take lightly, and we did discuss a lot of other options prior to voting for increasing the fees. The club will be keeping the following fees the same: weekly 5K race will remain at $2, the track program will remain free of charge, the 26x1 relay will be free for members, and relay costs will continue to be split by the club.
Please let the BOD know if you have any questions regarding the increase in membership fees and again, apologies for not including this in the original email.
Thank you,
Mystic Board of Directors

I realized recently that I've been running with the Mystic Runners running club for over a decade and I just have to say that I appreciate the group more and more the longer I run. Runners are a funny bunch: they can have wildly different careers (anything from Dog Rescue to General Manager of the 99), be very different ages (have made friends with runners from 22 to 75), have different goals (some train for races, others look for dates), and have had very different experiences (usually quite harrowing back stories that make you appreciate why they run). I never get tired hearing stories from other runners. Looking forward to an exciting year and more experiences from everyone, including myself!
