2023-2024 Candidate Bios

Ken O'Brien

Candidate for President

(Incumbent)

Objective: My goal is to serve as President for a second term to continue to guide the Mystic Runners to be a welcoming and inclusive Club for runners and all members, both old and new. Over this past year, we have been able to add over thirty new members to the Club, and I would like the opportunity to build on this positive energy as we run into 2024.

I believe it is important that we continue to show our presence as a group in the running community in our Grand Prix races, relay races and the many BAA events, and as president I will continue to listen to our members in trying new ideas to grow the club.  Examples we have added this past year include having a Mystic tent at the Wakefield Festival by the Lake, adding a 6:30 group to our 5k fun runs on Wednesdays, and setting up Mystic membership tables at other local Wakefield races.

I truly believe we are turning the corner as a running club, and I hope I have your vote!

 Membership:  Mystic member since 2017

BOD Experience:  BOD at Large in 2022; Elected as Board President in 2023.

Volunteerism: BAA packet stuffing, Run to Remember, Wednesday 5K, BAA Half, Verge Team Guide Runner

Katie Cronin

Candidate for Vice President

(Incumbent)

Objective: I joined the Mystics in May 2017 after I had been running for a year. I participate in the Grand Prix, the Lake Q 5k and relay races. I have been on the banquet committee for the last six years.

I have volunteered for the Boston Marathon packet stuffing, BAA Half Marathon water stop, BAA 10k bib distribution, Eastern States finish line, the Mystic Classic and the weekly Lake Q 5k.

In May 2021, I became Grand Prix director. I was the race director for the first Santa Dash Classic and am directing this year as well. I was on the scholarship committee for the first time in 2023.

Club Member Since: May 2017

Club Officer or BOD Experience: Vice-President

Club Volunteerism: Lake Q, B.A.A. Events, Eastern States Finish Line, banquet committee, scholarship committee, and lottery committee

Dave Parziale

Candidate for Treasurer

(Incumbent)

Objective: I want to use my related experience as a controller to help move the club forward financially.

Also, as a member of the board, I want to help implement new initiatives to help increase attendance at both track and the Q

Club Member Since: 2016

Club Officer or BOD Experience: treasurer the last 5 years.

Club Volunteerism: I volunteer and run both indoor and outdoor track, I serve as race director for the weekly Lake Q 5K and I volunteer each year at the Mystic Classic.

Relatable Experience: Controller for a Property Management Real Estate Company for over 25 years.

John Archibald

Candidate for At-Large director

Objective: To support the club to be the best it can be. To further the joy of running and the camaraderie we feel as Mystic Runners.

In my career in health care, I have held many leadership positions (two of which were director positions) and have been part of leadership groups that work on initiatives, offer opinions and mentor.

Currently, I am a member of the Reading Lions and sit on their Road Race committee.   The Journey for Sight is a Mystic favorite.  Being in both clubs, I may be able to work out some incentives for the club for that race next year.

I recently made a proposal to the Lions to create a committee on inclusivity and have been asked by their board to chair the committee.

I imagine the Lions committees may run similar to a Mystic Board meeting.

Club Volunteerism:  I have volunteered a few times at the lake and attempted to volunteer for Boston Run to Remember (although got COVID)

My availability was not as great as I would have liked this past year with an ailing family member who I supported and is now better.

Erin Ward-Dirks

Candidate for At-Large director

(Incumbent)

Objective: I want to help the club continue to move forward welcoming new members to join and get involved.

The club has had such a positive impact on my life, and I want to give  back with the goal of helping the club grow.

I joined the Mystic runners in 2017 and became more actively involved the last few years.

Over the past few years, I have seen all the great things the club does for the running community through volunteerism, the local community with the high school scholarships, but, most importantly, the support and encouragement for club members of all abilities. I joined the club hoping it would push me to run more never expecting to make so many memories and great friends.

I have participated in the weekly Lake Q races, track, 26X1, Mill Cities and Grand Prix races.

 I joined the board in Feb/March 2023.

Club Volunteerism:  Since joining the Mystics, I have volunteered in a few different capacities: at Lake Q on Wednesday evenings, at packet pick up for the Mystic Classic, water stop for the Run to Remember, Banquet committee,  and the Santa Dash.
